ISTD  Project Survival of the Pigeons
Survival of the Pigeons is a publication that explores the remarkable journey of pigeons—from wild rock doves to revered symbols and now misunderstood city dwellers. Created for the ISTD 2025 brief, the project highlights pigeons’ overlooked contributions to human history and their enduring resilience.

Once honored in ancient cultures and used as wartime messengers, pigeons have long adapted to human life. The book traces their evolution alongside us, reflecting on their roles as symbols of peace, tools of communication, and loyal companions. Its title nods to Darwin’s “survival of the fittest,” capturing how pigeons have thrived despite modern neglect.

Designed to challenge stereotypes, the book uses striking visuals, clean typography, and compelling narratives to elevate the pigeon’s image. The A6 format, echoing a pigeon’s size, and a square grid inspired by traditional pigeonholes create a tactile and orderly reading experience.

Survival of the Pigeons is a tribute to resilience and adaptation, encouraging readers to see pigeons not as pests, but as enduring companions in the human story.
